An outline presentation of the philosophy and principles underpinning the emerging dlr Trees and Urban Forestry Strategy 2021-2031 ('A Climate for Trees: Human Health and Well-being') through a shared culture of care that sees humans and trees co-habiting.

Aidan Ffrench - Aidan holds primary and master degrees in Landscape Horticulture, a Diploma in Applied Project Management, and over 37 years’ experience in public and private sectors in Ireland and U.K. He’s presidency of The Irish Landscape Institute (2005-07) saw a distinct increase in the profession’s public profile, in particular its advocacy/lobbying role, and he was the first landscape architect to be interviewed on Ireland’s flagship radio news/current affairs programme, ‘Morning Ireland. Aidan is a keen outdoor enthusiast, photographer, singer and amateur actor; and when he’s not designing landscapes you’ll find him relaxing in one, usually with a fishing rod in his hand!

Dlr is a mixed urban/rural local authority (one of 4 in the Dublin city and county sub-region), with a population of 218,000 (census 2016). Parks & Landscape Services is a division within the authority's directorate for Community, Cultural Development and Well-being. The divisions delivers Quality of Life services and Blue-Green infrastructure (Parks, Green Spaces), play provision, cemeteries, sports facilities and programmes; and in-house expertise in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Biodiversity, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Management and Cultural and Natural Heritage; with a staff no. of approx. 110 no. - Landscape Architects, Parks/Landscape Officers, a Heritage Officer, Biodiversity Officer, parks supervisors, gardeners, foremen, craftsmen and general operatives.
