Celebrating trees
The Urban Tree Festival started in London, and is now in its sixth year. It has established itself as a key event in the environmental calendar in London and beyond, putting on a varied mix of in person and online events.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Trees are for everyone, and we bring nature closer to every town dweller and urban community. Our cities are endlessly diverse. We believe every person and every community, people of all ages and backgrounds, should have full access to trees and nature. The UTF is passionate about making nature accessible to all.
Our cities’ parks and gardens are filled with trees from around the world. Trees for beauty! Trees for shade and company! Trees for food!
We celebrate all trees in all urban settings: street trees, of course, but also trees in parks, gardens and commons and all the wild places in our town centres, quiet cul-de-sacs and suburbs.
Trees are good for our mental and physical health. They filter pollution, leach away toxins, pump out oxygen, store carbon, nurture 100s of species (including us), mitigate flooding, give us shade and shelter, bring beauty and value to our streets and joy to our hearts.
Trees have histories and a presence. They help foster a sense of community. Trees can bring people and communities together.
The UTF is for education and inspiration: talks, walks, yoga and t’ai chi, visits to streets, woods and ancient trees, art workshops and town planning discussions. It encourages debate, music, crafts and campaigning. It is for tree care and human welfare. The UTF is a blend of science, art, conservation and creativity. Trees are for everyone, relating to everything!

UTF is a non-political, not for profit, Constituted Volunteer Group, run by a group of passionate volunteers and staff, working with event organisers who include; artists, meditators, young people and the old, mothers with prams, tree wardens, conservationists, dog walkers, writers, rappers, health and welfare practitioners, ecologists and urban planners, food growers and restaurant goers, storytellers ... and everyone who is inspired to love our trees!
