Tree Identification Walk

with Sustainable Life

Join arborist Alan Bale from Sustainable Life on a tree ID walk around the beautiful Ten Acres woodland in Stirchley, south Birmingham.

Alan is woodland management lead for the area so he has lots of handy tips on how to identify these trees for yourself. In this 14-minute film he highlights a selection of trees, identifying their features, uses and behaviours.

This is just a small peak at the trees on this recently restored and beautiful woodland site which had been left to run wild. Ten Acres is a stretch of land with a woodland that sits between the River Bourn and the River Rea stretch and was previously derelict for some 30-40 years.

In 2019 Sustainable Life took over management of the site and began the process of re-establishing the woodland, promoting native trees, natural succession and increased native biodiversity. There are many fabulous trees on the Ten Acres site as well as three stages of natural woodland progression. The site has a variety of apple trees across the seven hectares as well as two established orchards and a third being developed this year.

Sustainable Life also works alongside the Friends of Ten Acres in Stirchley to provide a range of activities in local woodlands and green spaces.
